The Tahitian Pearl Trophy Contest presented their final awards in Paris on October 8th 2000 at a fabulously festive gala reception. The contest, organized over a two year period, included 18 national competitions from throughout the world with the 83 finalists competing in the second year. The sponsor of the awards, Perles de Tahiti, had three objectives in creating the contest. First, to promote Tahitian pearls through creations by recognized jewelry designers, secondly, to demonstrate the universal appeal for Tahitian pearls, and thirdly, to underscore the "wearability" and fashion status Tahitian pearls have presently attained. During the evening, models dressed by top couture designers mixed and matched the winning creations with the latest fashion trends. The trophies, designed by Lalique crystal, were awarded the international winners in a exciting presentation hosted by the former Miss France, who just happened to be Tahitian.
