How Many Carats?A carat is 1/5 of a gram (0.007 of an ounce), and the universal measure of weight for diamonds. Large diamonds (one carat is considered "large") are found relatively infrequently in nature, and this rarity adds to their value. To put that in terms of jewellery, fewer than one percent of people will ever own a diamond that weighs one or more carats. And though it's the easiest and most obvious of the Four Cs to determine, carat weight does not tell the whole story of a diamond's worth. In fact, rarely do two diamonds of equal weight have the same value. Seeing the differences between similar-sized stones is one of the many areas where our qualified personnel can assist you. We can explain how, in addition to its size, the overall quality of a diamond - colour, clarity, and cut - relates to its value.
