History
A Family Affair
Owned by Pat and Joanne Thompson, who started Diamond Design in 1991. Pat is a third generation jeweller whose grandfather Paddy began by servicing marine chronometers on the ships sailing in and out of the Port of St. John’s in 1905. Many might remember Pat’s father, Robert Thompson, well-known jeweller and owner of Thompsons’ Jewellery on Water Street where Pat first learned the trade before branching out on his own with Diamond Design in 1991.
Did You Know?
Cut plays a big part in determining the value of a diamond. Done well, it allows the maximum amount of light to enter and reflect back out of the diamond. If “the cut” is too deep or too shallow, light can spill through the side or bottom of a diamond and be lost, leading to a less brilliant display and a less valuable diamond.
